Spice Substitutions: what you can swap with what

A few weeks ago I put up a post about herb substitutions, so I thought I'd follow it up with some spice substitutions. Now, my cupboard is stuffed full of spices...I mean jam packed. Between the spices, the oils and other condiments there really isn't a lot of space for anything new. But that doesn't mean that I've been stuck on plenty of occasions without that one spice that I really needed, so I've done my fair share of googling to find out what I could use instead. Here's a list compiled of a few other lists with what spices can be substituted for what. As with the herb substitutions, I'm not sure that I 100% agree with everything on the list, and it's not 100% complete, but it's a great start and could just lead to some interesting concoctions and dishes.
